The spirit of Adwa echoed through the halls of Peabody Elementary School on March 2nd, 2025, as the Massachusetts

Ethiopian Support Association (MESA) hosted a powerful and moving celebration of the 129th Adwa Victory Day. Nestled at 70 Rindge Ave in Cambridge, MA, the school transformed into a vibrant hub of cultural pride and historical commemoration, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Under the poignant theme, "A Celebration of Black Resilience," the event honored the monumental triumph of Ethiopian forces at the Battle of Adwa in 1896. This victory, a beacon of African defiance against colonialism, resonated deeply with attendees, reminding us of the enduring strength and unity that defines the Ethiopian spirit.

The day was a rich tapestry of educational insights and cultural expressions. Distinguished

speakers, including Dr. Yamlaksira Getachew, Dr. Gebeyehu Teferi (joining via Zoom), and

Professor Teodros Kiros, eloquently articulated the profound significance of Adwa. They painted a vivid picture of the battle's historical context, emphasizing its role as a symbol of African resilience and the unwavering pursuit of freedom. Their words served as a powerful reminder of the legacy that continues to inspire generations.

The celebration was not confined to lectures; it was a vibrant immersion into Ethiopian culture. Yoftahe Mulatu and Rahel Fikreab captivated the audience with their moving poetry readings, weaving narratives of courage and triumph. The Enqu Dankira Dance Group brought the stage to life with their electrifying traditional Ethiopian dance performances, showcasing the beauty and dynamism of Ethiopian artistic expression.

Interactive elements added another layer of engagement. Trivia questions tested attendees'

knowledge of Adwa's history, while art competitions allowed for creative interpretations of the day's significance.

The atmosphere was one of camaraderie and shared pride. The event served as a reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating cultural heritage, especially in the face of adversity. The spirit of unity was palpable, echoing the very essence of the Adwa victory itself.

The spirit of "Enberta," as passionately expressed by our brother, Aklog Limenh, a pillar of MESA, echoed throughout the event. "Enberta" – let's be strong! – served as a powerful reminder of the resilience that defines both the Adwa Victory and the spirit of the Ethiopian community. He encouraged everyone to stay connected and look forward to future events, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

The 129th Adwa Victory Day celebration in Cambridge was more than just a commemoration; it was a reaffirmation of the strength, unity, and resilience that defines the Ethiopian people. It was a day to remember, to learn, and to celebrate the enduring legacy of a victory that continues to inspire the world.

We look forward to seeing you at our next event. Until then, stay strong, "Enberta!"
